Are you about to unbox your very first tarot deck? Yay! Chances are, you are extremely curious about what the whole sacred process is all about, knowing it can be both magical and grounding. Or, perhaps, you’ve already been there, but now you would like to start a daily tarot practice to make your routine more meaningful. Whatever the reason, you are sure to enjoy the process! And the best part is that you don’t have to memorize all 78 cards. All you need is a little curiosity and a few simple habits that we’ll help you cultivate.

Tip 1. Draw Just One Card at FirsT

Whether you choose to do tarot reading online by experts or use the good old printed deck, we recommend that you start with something simple. Just one-card pull is enough, guys! You are welcome to start a habit of a morning or evening tarot reading. All you have to do is just shuffle the deck and think about your question, meanwhile. “What energy should I focus on at the office?” “What lesson awaits me today?” “What should I do to boost my health?” – these are the examples of the questions you’re welcome to approach the card with. The best part is that this practice is very quick (just 5-15 minutes maximum), and it helps you connect with the deck using your intuition. There’s no pressure or complicated readings! You just have a quick moment of self-reflection.

Tip 2. Start a Tarot Diary

Recording your daily tarot readings helps you keep track of your progress and understand the process over time. Whenever you pull a card, make sure to write down what card it is, what you feel as you pull it (the gut feeling), the conventional meaning of the card (use a guidebook if needed), and how this card is related to your day. Maybe right now everything is new for you, but sooner than you know, you’ll begin to notice patterns, personal interpretations, and maybe even detect some accurate synchronicities that might be even scary due to their accuracy.

Tip 3. Do not Try to Remember Everything

If you check your guidebook all the time at first, it’s totally fine. The more you work with tarot cards, the sooner you start memorizing their meanings. But before that, your main task is to concentrate on the imagery and how you feel about it. After all, tarot reading séances are much about intuition and symbolism. Our special recommendation here is to try associating each card with a simple keyword or emotion. Did you draw The Fool? Excellent. This card might mean “new beginnings” or “freedom.”

Tip 4. Your Questions Must Be Simple

The simpler the better, guys! Just ask a question and draw a card. It’s a great method to start regular tarot reading sessions. Feel free to approach cards with requests like, “What is holding me back from progress in my career?” or “What do I need to know right now to build a love relationship?” When you draw a card, take some time to interpret what the spirits want to say in the context of the question. Thus, you’ll have some priceless practice of working with your deck, memorize the card meanings, and get your questions answered.

Tip 5. Time and Place Matter

To create rhythm, make sure to set the ritual first. In other words, you have to draw your card (or at least try to) at the same time every single day. It can be a simple ritual while you’re having your morning espresso or before you go to dreamland, in your bed, with some calming music as a background. What it all comes down to is that you have to create a cozy environment, even if it’s just a corner with your armchair where you usually read a book. Add a couple of candles and crystals and voilà! You’ll have an inspiring tarot reading haven.

Tip 6. Pick a Focus for the Week

Are you ready to deepen your tarot reading practice a bit? We recommend choosing a theme for a week. It can be anything, from major arcana cards and court cards to a specific suit (like swords, cups, and so on). Here’s the scenario: every day, you will pull a card and reflect on how it is related to your week’s theme. As a result, you learn exactly how tarot cards work together and how they ‘interact’ in different contexts.

Tip 7. Being Relaxed and Open Is a Must

Keep in mind that tarot cards are not a test, they are an instrument. It means that you shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes and being ‘not right.’ Things like being ‘right’ or ‘not right’ do not exist in the world of tarot! Who knows, maybe tomorrow the card you pull will make zero sense. And the day after tomorrow, it will instantly click. Other days, it might just offer a check on your emotional well-being. Whatever the case – that’s okay! The key is to stay open to what the spirits have to say and actually enjoy the process.

Tip 8. Make Tarot Part of the Other Practices

If there are other practices you are already engaged in, you are welcome to blend them with tarot. For example, if you do journaling on a regular basis, use tarot cards as a starting point. Are you into meditation? Great! Focus on the imagery and what it brings up. Plus, if you practice gratitude, reflect on what the card that you draw today is teaching you.

Who said that a tarot reading session should be a separate activity? You can’t even imagine in what way it can enrich your self-care routine!

Tip 9. Think of Your Deck as a New Buddy

Let spirits get to know you. Take your time to shuffle the deck and ponder over your question(s). Here’s a trick: you can put a card under your pillow and sleep like that. Thus, the energy of the card will be there for you even when it’s time for you to meet Morpheus. In general, the more you interact with the tarot cards, the stronger your connection with this ancient divination instrument.

Perfect Doesn’t Exist!

When you choose to make tarot cards part of your routine, keep in mind that the process is not about getting things done perfectly. It’s more about creating space to check in with your inner self. Simple as that! Sooner than you know, you will have a useful habit that brings hope, clarity, comfort, and creativity into your everyday life.
